Glambert Vamps It Up for “Halloweenie” Celebration

The Advocate Adam Lambert Halloween Costume
Doesn’t this year feel like the longest Halloween ever? That’s because while the holiday isn’t technically until tomorrow, the costume parties have been in full swing since last Friday. In West Hollywood, this day couldn’t have come a moment too soon. Moving from its usual Hollywood cemetery location, the annual “Fred and Jason’s Halloweenie” had an extra special venue at the backlot of the HBO hit series True Blood. In its 7th year, the costume celebration attracted hundreds of gays and ghouls dressed to their imagination’s best, and its proceeds benefitted the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA.org). In attendance were some of Hollywood’s LGBT elite, including singer Adam Lambert, former *NSYNC member Lance Bass, television producer Peter Marc Jacobson, and Writer Bruce Vilanch.

Two Dads, A Dog, and a Public Safety Campaign

Advocate West Hollywood SignThe city of West Hollywood just got a tad more gay-friendly as it unveiled new street advertisements in conjunction with the public safety campaign Watch the Road, which helps promote kids and adults staying alert while driving, walking, or riding their bikes. The campaign is comprised of large signs, like the one above, hanging along the city’s main boulevards. One sign in particular displays “Slow down, your family is waiting for you” and features a subtle graphic of a family with two fathers. Targeted marketing is common in WeHo, where close to half of the city’s residents identify as LGBT.

Dozens of people marched today in the “Occupy WeHo” protest in West Hollywood. The rally was done as an act of solidarity with the Occupy movement that originated on Wall street. The peaceful demonstration began in the city’s Plummer Park, then continued west to the Matthew Shepard Triangle, and then back to the starting line, where the crowd cheered on speeches and waved posters demanding federal equal rights, promoting local LGBT-friendly businesses, and calling for the release of WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning.
