The Advocate Archives: Turkey Day

In honor of the holiday, we present to you the unique ways The Advocate’s given thanks through the years. Check out our four Thanksgiving-themed covers, from as early as 1975, after the jump.

After discovering these, we’re thankful for the editorial decision to no longer
do Thanksgiving-themed covers.

December 3, 1975: "Five Ways to Celebrate Thanksgiving"
Coping, murder, and entrapment? Sounds like it was an extra special “Turkey Issue.”

December 1, 1976: "Thanksgiving Feast“
In case you were wondering what the fully-cooked turkey is saying to the evil Julie Child-loving turkey, it’s "Jerry— must we go through this?” Don’t feel bad, we didn't
get it either.

November 27, 1980: "Thank Goodness for Gay“
Pilgrim-Pocahontas lady love. Thank goodness indeed.

November 25, 1986: "Wendel’s Back!”
Wouldn’t Thanksgiving dinner be easier, oh I dont know… on a table? The whole carving-the-turkey-in-bed-with-a-child-in-costume aspect is just creepy.
